How is traditional Chinese medicine part of a holistic approach?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory is based on the premise that disease is a state of imbalance. Health, on the other hand, is a state of balance. This may resonate with many of you. You feel unwell when you are out of balance. The key to the TCM approach is to determine what is out of balance or the “pattern” of disharmony. The pattern of disharmony is analogous to a traditional western “diagnosis.” Similarly, the pattern of disharmony is the basis of a TCM diagnosis.
The TCM approach evaluates all parts of the body, lifestyle. nutrition and emotional state to determine what is out of balance. Hence, making this approach more holistic than Western medicine.
How is TCM different from Western Medicine?
Contrary to Western medicine, TCM diagnosis is based on the evaluation of the entire body, mind and spirit and how these components impact the state of well being.
